Costume Fave # 4: 1920s FLAPPER

I Love celebrating the culture of the 1920s flapper.  These women were down to party, smoke, drink, dance, and be absolutely scandalous! They were Beautiful women that cut their hair short, and threw away the idea of the corset with their rectangular silhouettes and their loose fitting low waisted dresses.  Love. Love. Love.

Here are some adaptations to their make up look.  The key features to the flapper makeup look is very heavy and dark eye makeup, and a very dark lip stick.

Zooey Deschanel pulls this look off amazingly.  Notice how her eye make up is really dark and heavy around the outer corner of the eyes.  This will make your eyes look bigger :)

When you are trying to find a flapper dress for this costume REMEMBER, the silhouette should be rectangular, with a dropped waist line that is at the LOWEST part of your waist.  Also remember that Fringe was very important in the early 1920s along with the ART DECO and SURREALISM Movement.

Dresses :)

See in this sketch how their bodies look like rectangles (very important) NO BODY CON dresses for this look!

See the Dropped waistline
FRINGE. FRINGE. FRINGE.

Accessories: Pearls, geo art deco inspired motifs, and very important the CLOCHE HAT, Embellished headbands, and beaded head wear.

This is an example of the Cloche Hat. It fits snuggly around the bobbed hair cut

Kandee's Crazy New Video.. hahaha.

Kandee is having some fun in this new video she posted today... haha.  She has gone nuts lol, but that is why I love her so much :)

Costume # 3: Cute or Creepy Doll!

This has been a classic halloween costume, but it is one of my favorites.  I think  my favorite part about this look is the makeup tricks that make your eyes look bigger and your lips look smaller.  You could choose to do a cute version of this doll look, or go for the super creepy! LOVE it.  And shout out to my  friend MARLO who has done this look before :)

Here are the more "cute" versions

This is my favorite cute one... it looks perfect!

Here are CREEPY ONES

What to wear for this costume????  Just get a frilly baby doll dress.  If you are doing the cute doll look, then you're done.  You could also creep up your frilly dress by tearing it up and putting fake blood on it, if you going for the creepy doll look.

Here come the TUTORIALS!!!

Mirror Mirror On the Wall... No, Wait, it's on my NAILS!

I am loving this mirror effect nail polish... this way I will have a mirror with me where ever I go :)

Costume # 2: Effie Trinket from Hunger Games!!!

Effie Trinket from the best selling Hunger Games Trilogy would be an amazing trendy costume for this year.  Hunger Games, the film, has single handedly sparked numerous trends in the makeup world when it comes to application and palettes.  It would be so fun to see someone rock out to this Effie (almost Marie Antoinette) look with the bright pink cheeks and cotton candy hair!!!!  LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

Variations

Here are some spreads of things you might need to pull off this super awesome costume

It would be easy to get a simple purple peplum dress (especially now because they are trending like crazy and are in every fast fashion store right now) and throw on a shoulder padded fun colored blazer. Don't forget the huge FLOWER in her hair and big fake eye lashes!

Here are some awesome tutorials :)

Here is Kandee Johnson's take on two looks in one.  First, a doll face, and second, a Marie Antoinette look.  These looks are not specific to Effie Trinket, however, the looks and techniques would definitely work for an Effie Trinket costume because Effie is very doll-like and looks very similar to Marie Antoinette!
